Module 1 · Welcome and induction
Welcome to Musgrove Park Emergency Department. This guide is for Peninsula and Bristol medical students. Your placement is an opportunity to practise assessing patients, explain your thinking and learn from the whole ED team. You are here to learn with supervision: ask questions early and tell us when you are unsure.
1. Before you start
Read your university placement information and check your latest rota, induction arrangements and learning outcomes. Confirm where to report, who to contact and what to bring. Have your student ID ready and check any requirements for dress, IT access and mandatory training. Peninsula and Bristol students should follow their own university requirements for attendance, assessments and sign-off.
Your first shift
Introduce yourself as a medical student. Find your supervisor and agree what you can take part in. Ask for an orientation covering the clinical areas, handover, staff facilities, emergency help and local safety procedures. Check how to access approved learning resources and how student entries in the clinical record are reviewed. If you miss induction, ask the placement team to arrange an alternative before starting clinical activity.
